Install Granite Countertop Costs
Granite countertop installation can improve the look of any kitchen and boost your home’s value significantly. Granite is one of the most expensive counter materials, but there are options for those who have a limited budget, thanks to tiles, overlays, and modular countertops. The type of granite you choose will impact your installation cost. Other factors include local labor costs, whether old counters need to be removed, and any additional work that may be included.

Other considerations and costs
- If you choose specialty edging or finishes for your granite countertops, those will incur an additional cost. There are a number of options for edging and finishing with a granite slab, and plenty to finish off granite tiles or overlays if you choose those, as well.
- There are different levels of granite quality available. If you are trying to save costs, you can find remnants, closeout pieces, and slabs that were ordered incorrectly or returned, which are often a lower grade and may have some unusual markings, but they will be the most affordable.
- If you use tiles, you will also need to add the cost of materials like caulk, tile sealer, and other items to your project list. Most installers will include materials in their pricing, but you need to be sure that there are no surprise charges.
- It can be cheaper to install a new counter at the same time that you are doing other renovations or kitchen remodeling work because there is an ongoing project and you may be able to get discounted referrals.
DIY considerations
- Installing a granite countertop is not a DIY job. This requires at least 2-3 professionals when using a slab to even deliver and put the counter in place.;
- If you want to save money on countertop installation, you can do your own demo work. Just make sure that you’re careful when removing the old counter so that you don’t damage the cabinets too much, or you’ll create even more prep work for the installers.
