While you’ll often hear that it is just a matter of plugging it in each night, you may want to have something more efficient, aesthetically appealing, and reliable than your trusty old extension cord.

• It may be a good idea to consider a utility upgrade if your home cannot already support a 100 amp wall connector. Though most modern homes have 200 amp service, it will serve the charger best if that consistent service is available.
• It is essential to be sure that your area allows for the installation of a home electric vehicle charging station and to pay any fees for applications, permits, and so on (your electrician should be aware of this and itemize it in the bid).
• Also, be aware that some states require plans (with drawings) identifying where the charging station will be located in the garage or property.

• There are always options for “plugin” charging stations, but experts recommend the hardwired method. Though it makes it impossible to move, it is less expensive over the long term and may even work with an existing dryer outlet!
